Clean Eating Meal Plan 3

I’m loving having a plan for the days to come! Do you find that you mindlessly graze while actually cooking? It doesn’t help anything when I am hungry, trying to stay on track AND trying to figure out what the heck to eat. Bad combination. I reach for whatever is available which tends to not be the best choices.

I’m enjoying have meal plans put together to keep me on track. But, I am also happy to share them with you all. My goals with these meal plans are to follow clean eating rules as much as possible. You will find that they closely resemble Paleo meal plans and even can evolve into 21 Day Fix meal plans. What does this mean? While they may not be perfection, for the most part they are clean and real food ingredients for you to try! Paleo means that it is more of a grain free version of clean eating (working toward less beans) and 21 Day Fix throws portion control into the mix. Ultimate Reset Tips

The time had come for me to make changes for the sake of my health. It was not just for my weight and not just for my clothes. I had been struggling with some chronic health issues for almost 8 months and getting no relief. And that was not for lack of trying to get help and make changes. I talked a lot about my reasons for starting the Ultimate Reset in this post.

Why reset? And what is the Ultimate Reset?

“We’re breathing air that’s far from pristine, drinking water that’s not even close to being pure, eating foods laced with things we can’t even pronounce-chemical additives, preservatives, and pesticides-and absorbing toxins.”

Basically if running properly, our body is resilient and made to filter these toxins out and try to eliminate these chemicals. However, when our bodies get pushed to the limit, things are not happening quite as effectively. This can be seen in symptoms such as “lower energy, weight gain and a weakened immune system.”  So, like I said in my previous post…I was at this point.  I had gotten so worked up thinking about portions and calories and cravings that I was failing to look at food for what my body truly needs it for.  Nutrients.  And although my diet was basically clean and healthy most of the time, I was still having episodes where I just cheated like crazy and I was missing out giving my body the NUTRIENTS it was desperate for.  I was eating way too much protein in the form of meat and I was cooking almost everything I ate rather than getting a mix of raw and cooked.  I was being “healthy” but sort of missing the boat.

My Top Ultimate Reset Tips for Getting Started

1.) Have a GOOD reason for embarking on this journey.  It’s worth it, but it’s not easy. You have to have the commitment and a reason that makes you continue when you don’t feel like it.

2.) Pick a start date that works for YOU. I started on a Sunday and I’m glad I did. It gave me some extra time at the grocery store on Saturday and it gave me a day to prepare and get used to the schedule before being thrown into a hectic week

3.) Join the Facebook support groups for the Ultimate Reset. These were very helpful.

4.) There is a wealth of information in the “files” sections of these Facebook groups. I would recommend printing the “food substitutions list” “reset in a crunch meal plans” and there was also a guide for drinking water, tea and Shakeology recipes

5.) Print each of the phase grocery lists. I had to look through these before going to the store because I did not know what all of the items were (I had to look some up so that I had an idea of what I was looking for)

6.) Keep a journal.  I kept just a small journal to keep track of before measurements but more importantly daily symptoms to see what was making me feel better or worse

These tips were steps I took for my reset that I thought were very beneficial to my success. The reset booklet comes with tips for preparing some of your meals in advance as well. Now, just DO IT. Remember, you are doing this for a good reason. Have an open mind we are TRYING to eat new foods, try new things and get healthy! Shakeology Smoothie Bowl

I have a habit of scrolling through Instagram and drooling over the food pictures. Really…I type in #food and just dream. One of the items that has really been catching my eye lately is the smoothie bowl. Have you ever heard of them? I had not, but the  idea is really simple. Basically make your smoothie or shake of choice and pour it into a bowl and eat it with a spoon.

I like the idea because of course it reminded me of dessert. And let me tell you…some of these pictures are just downright gorgeous. All of the different fruit combinations and colors that these people were adding to them looked amazing. I decided I had to give it a try.

Well, smoothie bowl experiment #1 was just ok. It reminded me of really tasty cereal basically. Mine was not beautiful. I decided as I was making it, that I am just too practical for a beautiful smoothie bowl. I couldn’t stand the thought of putting full slices of fruit across the top just to make it pretty and then have to cut it up. It just didn’t make sense to me. (I don’t have time for that!)  As I was eating experiment #1, I was already planning modifications for #2. And I decided I did not want tasty “cereal” but something more like the consistency of ice cream (you are not surprised I’m sure).

Once I get an idea in my head, I can’t let it go….and sure enough I made smoothie bowl round 2 the next evening. And guess what!? This was IT!! It had the right consistency, it tasted great. And it was like soft serve ice cream….BUT, it was like soft serve ice cream that included vitamins, super foods, and a host  of other wonderful ingredients. Salad and veggies in my “ice cream”? Yes please! This was a wonderful recipe to include Shakeology as a key ingredient. And I can not wait to make it again!

Try this and see what you think. I can not wait to make it again, and I already have plans for a slight modification. Pretty sure I’m going to add some type of crumbled bar to the top next time (Quest bar? Luna Bar?). Sounds amazing….kind of like a Dairy Queen Blizzard.

Shakeology Smoothie Bowl (Ice Cream with Sneaky Veggies)

Ingredients:

2 Frozen Bananas

1 scoop Chocolate Shakeology

1 Small Handful of ice

1 cup milk of choice (I used unsweetened vanilla coconut milk)

Directions:

Place all items in your blender and blend/crush until smooth. That’s it. Enjoy!  My ninja blender worked wonderfully with this. Pour  into a bowl and enjoy with a spoon 😊💕

Jenn’s Shamrock Shake

I don’t know what the deal is, but I have been craving a shamrock shake like crazy. I have never even had a shamrock shake. But, something about it has my mouth watering and I don’t know why. So, I am probably glorifying in my head how wonderful it is. Who cares if I don’t know the difference anyway, right?

I totally lucked into some Greenberry Shakeology which was awesome because I definitely wanted to try it before I bought a whole bag or something.  I honestly did not know what to think about it. I was cool with the green color and all…but I’m a chocolate kind of girl. (You know that sweet tooth I’m always fighting). My first thought when I opened the bag was that I thought the Greenberry smelled good. I don’t remember thinking that about the others. But I did notice that right away.

Well, I found a Greenberry Shakeology Shamrock Shake recipe and decided to go for it Jenn style of course. Meaning, I made it like I like it and changed things around too. The original recipe called for some vanilla pudding mix which I thought was sort of counterproductive if a person was trying to eat clean, don’t you think?  So I automatically took that out and replaced it with 1/2 frozen banana. I’m sure the vanilla packet is wonderful, but what I don’t know won’t hurt me. I also removed the peanut butter and used Sunbutter (or almond butter). Got to be allergy friendly over here and we just got sunflower added back to our diet last week (super exciting! we celebrated 🎉😀).

I was really happy with this recipe. I was nervous to take a sip and have it be terrible. I mean what a waste, you know? Well, I was pleasantly surprised. While I feel like the chocolate settles down my sweet tooth cravings (which is awesome!)…I feel like the Greenberry was more light and refreshing.  Really tasty recipe.

1.) 2 handfuls of ice

2.) 1 cup unsweetened vanilla coconut milk

3.) 2 cups cold water

4.) 1 tsp sunbutter

5.) 1/2 frozen banana

6.) 2-3 drops peppermint extract

7.) 1 scoop Greenberry Shakeology

*be forewarned…it’s huge. Shakeology is how I sneak extra water in because I’m a terrible water drinker!

21 Day Fix: Yellow (if you choose to use the coconut milk for your tradeout..I don’t always count it, there are not hardly any calories in what I purchase), tsp, purple, red

21 Days of Weight Loss Support

I am looking for women that want to lose 5-15 pounds in 21 days in my Summer Slim Down group that starts on Monday May 11. I want to talk about some of my favorite aspects of this program. And trust me, this is coming from someone who has attempted a lot of “diets” in the past. Honestly, I got to the point where I was just sick of dieting. Why not just CHANGE? Learn to be healthy. I was looking for a long term fix not a short term bandaid to cover up the problem. Here are my top 3 reasons why I think that this program is really pretty awesome.

1.) It Works

My past group members and I can vouch for that. I just lost 6 lbs in 1 week using this program….6 lbs!! Really exciting. I went on vacation and indulged (too much!) and then couldn’t seem to get myself back on track. I started the 21 Day Fix right along with my group members to lose some vacation fluff 🙂 and was very happy with my results after one week. And, all numbers aside..I just FEEL better. I was eating junk and Easter candy and guess what, I felt like JUNK. It is so refreshing to just feel better. That by itself is worth it for me. I do want to say, for those wanting to get back on track…even just 3 days of following this plan had me feeling a million times better. My group members that use the nutrition plan and fitness program have all had exciting results. I have a member I’m thinking about in particular who is super close to GOAL WEIGHT. How exciting is that?

2.). Teaches HOW to eat

Like I said before, I love that this is teaching me how to eat again. It is not a short term thing where you eat crazy foods and then expect to keep the weight off miraculously even though you go straight back to your old habits. We eat REAL food. Autumn uses a color coded container system to help you learn what to eat and how much of it. My first week was eye opening. I had been eating a basically healthy diet for a while at that point. But, I was eating way too much of some things and not enough of others. This system really helped me achieve balance for once. You receive a set of containers with this program and an instruction booklet that helps to figure out you daily allotment of each color. All you do is fill up the container to get your correct portion size. Pretty easy. And, honestly after doing this for awhile…you get to the point where you just KNOW what you can eat and how much. I love love the fact that I am not obsessing over calories or points. This is something I can do for the long haul (and that is what I wanted!) By the way, the original 21 Day Fix allows for indulgences. It shows you how to eat some treats or drink wine in moderation. So, you are not giving everything up either.  Here is more information on how to use the containers.

3.) The Workouts

This program comes with 7 daily :30 minute workouts. Each day is something different and it utilizes cardio, intervals, strength and yoga/Pilates style exercises. It is actually simple to follow. Now, don’t get me wrong. These workouts are a challenge. But, there is no difficult choreography to learn. They are easy to understand exercises, not necessarily easy to do. You want this workout to work, right? What is really exciting is when you start noticing with each week that you are getting BETTER. Did you catch that these workouts are only :30 minutes long? This is the least amount I have ever exercised and I am getting better results. I can’t argue with that.

What’s in Your Shake?

Do you actually know what’s in your shake?  I know we all start calling them shakes and people just assume..oh it’s another shake. No big deal. It’s just like all of the rest. So, we are just sort of indifferent and not thinking that one type of “shake” may actually be different than others. We group them all together and don’t give it a second thought.

But, maybe we should give it a second thought. Now, don’t shut down..hear me out. Most of us are informed enough to know that there is a lot of unhealthy stuff out there. Processed this and processed that. Poor ingredients, additives, non foods…I could go on forever. If we are making an effort to get healthy and start making better choices, perhaps we SHOULD start paying attention to ingredients.

Sometimes it takes something to make a person start thinking about changing. For us, dealing with my daughter’s health issues opened the door for me to start looking for something more. I started researching and looking for healthier options. I started thinking about what I am actually putting in my body as well (health scares and biopsies will do that to a person). I am trying to make us better.

Did you know that you can choose between eating foods that do nothing for your body or even harm it and foods that actually HELP your body. Super foods are foods that boost your immune system, fuel your body, and foods that fight disease. You can actually help yourself by what what you are consuming.

Enter Shakeology. What is important here is to take a look at the ingredients. I think this is what most people skip right over. It is important to understand what this can actually do for you. It is one daily healthy meal taken care of for you. Not only that, it is vitamins, minerals and superfoods all in one place. We are all busy. We never have enough time. Wouldn’t it be nice if one meal was covered. And not only that, it’s a meal that is actually GOOD for you. It’s amazing what you can do for yourself over time. Spring Weight Loss: Shedding Layers

Spring break week…already. And while that is super exciting, it means that summer is right around the corner. Which, in my book is even better!! I can not wait to lose the winter coats and layers and go outside barefoot and in a tshirt and shorts. (The barefoot thing is one of my husband’s not so favorite things that I do actually). But, I love the feel of the grass on my feet when it is still soft and green (not burned and dried like late summer).

However, shedding all of those layers does mean facing some facts. Do my shorts even fit for one. Eek…I have a lot of white skin that I have been covering up all winter. It’s so easy to sink into some sedentary habits and comfort food when it is super cold. I struggle with that anyway. I wonder what I would be like if it was warm all year where I live. (Beside the fact that it would be AWESOME! I mean). But it seems like the constant reality of wearing less clothing would be right in my face at all times. Which may be beneficial.

That being said, I’m taking steps to get ready. I am starting my next 30 day challenge soon to whip myself into shape along with any others wanting the same thing. It’s just more fun when we are working toward a common goal together! (Even if it is all of us complaining about wobbly legs after leg day). Let’s support each other and get this done!

Chocolate Snickers Shakeology Recipe

Snickers Shakeology recipe…it just sounds wonderful, doesn’t it?  I am well aware that I have a sweet tooth. It is one of my big struggles with healthy and clean eating. Yes, I could eat chocolate all of the time. It makes me feel like poo…but that does not always stop me.  I know where my weakness is and I work hard to overcome it. But, when it comes down to it, I still really like to have a little something (or a lot of something) sweet. Shakeology has been a wonderful exchange for me. It gives me my something sweet in a healthy way instead. And then I have recipes like this one that make it just like dessert. I’m sort of drooling thinking about this one actually.

I am definitely a creature of habit, but I am trying to branch out. I have my all time favorite Shaekology recipe that I like to call my Monster Recipe. But, in an effort to try different things I have a list of recipes I am working through and modifying as I go. And wow, I found one worth sharing.

One of the reasons I love my Shakeology so much is that it is my treat as well as one of my healthy meals.   For this recipe, just imagine what it would be like to have the flavors of a candy bar in your shake. I just might have to switch this one to my new favorite. Below is my version of a Snickers Shakeology recipe. Keep in mind, I like to make mine huge (I actually like to drink 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the afternoon) and I am accommodating several food allergies. So feel free to modify as needed for your household and tastes.

How to Make Shakeology

If you are new to drinking Shakeology or want to try new recipes, here is a good place to start. You get your bag and then don’t know what to do with it!  Here are some tips on how to make Shakeology. I think there are certain tricks to making your Shakeology taste even better.

A lot of these are my personal preference (but it does seem like there is a general consensus to add more liquid than most of the recipes call for).  I think several of the recipes make Shakeology too concentrated for my taste. I also like to add more liquid to mine so that I am sneaking in extra water for my day as well without having to think about it. I would say my top 2 tips are to add more liquid and make sure the liquid is cold. I love my Shakeology cold!  It’s so refreshing.

Although Shakeology has several health benefits because of all of the ingredients included, one of the reasons I love it the most is because it is a TREAT!  I love anything that I can basically make into a smoothie or shake that reminds me of ice cream. 🙂 I think that is why I prefer it so cold.

I think most often people hear about Shakeology and think it’s just another protein powder. What is the big deal?  I don’t think that they really understand the benefits and to be honest, I didn’t think much about them until my husband of all people was reading the back of the bag and brought up all of the vitamins and minerals included.
